Demir Kazık / Iron Stake

TRT2 Kökler Belgeseli için yapılan Türklerde Demir Kazık tasavvuru.
Demir Kazık, bugün modern astronomide Kutup Yıldızı (Polaris) olarak bilinen yıldızdır.
• Gökyüzünde sabitmiş gibi görünen bu yıldız, Türkler için göğün merkezi olarak kabul edilmiştir.
• Diğer yıldızlar onun etrafında döner gibi göründüğü için, göğü tutan kazık, yani “Gök Direği” sayılmıştır.
“Gök kubbe, ortasında sabit bir kazığa bağlı çadır gibi döner. Bu kazık Demir Kazık’tır.”

The concept of “Demir Kazık” (Iron Stake) in Turkish tradition, was created for the TRT2 documentary Kökler (Roots).
Demir Kazık is the star known today in modern astronomy as the Pole Star (Polaris).
• This star, which appears to remain fixed in the sky, was regarded by the Turks as the centre of the heavens.
• Since all other stars seem to revolve around it, it was considered the stake that holds the sky, the so-called “Heavenly Pillar”.

“The sky dome turns like a tent tied to a fixed stake at its centre. That stake is Demir Kazık.”
